Star Pianist Charles Richard-Hamelin joins Classical Jukebox!

Daniel Vnukowski was joined by star pianist and frequently-heard performer on the station Charles Richard-Hamelin.

Charles will be performing May 10th at 7pm at the Aurora Cultural Centre (22 Church St, Aurora) before leaving on a tour of South Korea and Japan.

The two reminisced about their past experiences at the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw. It was 10 years ago that Charles was the competitions’ silver medalist and winner of the Krystian Zimmer Prize. He shared with us the strategies he used to prepare, while still savouring a very rare opportunity.

Charles’ program on May 10th includes works by Isaac Aleniz, Enrique Grandos as well as some lesser-known works by Frederic Chopin. Charles aims to delight ears with the beautiful melodies of these “B-side” compositions of the famous composer as he travels further and further through the Chopin repertoire.

The evening will open with a pre concert talk at 7pm led by Rick Phillips, with music beginning at 7:30pm.
