Amir Amiri discusses his upcoming world tour on Classical Jukebox

Daniel was joined over the phone by Amir Amiri to talk about his upcoming world tour, which will include a performance in Aurora at Aurora Trinity Anglican Church, April 6th, 7:30pm. 

Amir has been a Montreal resident for over 20 years but hails from Tehran and specializes in the fusion of ancient instruments and music from the Persian and Babylonian age into modern times. In particular, Amir specializes in playing the Santur, a 72-string, dulcimer related instrument played with mallets. It has the unique ability to be re-configured to access a whole range of microtonal notes (The notes in between notes), which results in a sound highly authentic to the music of ancient times. Amir has also compared these different configurations and scales to colours to help us understand these technical aspects.
