Often cited as the great Bach’s greatest work, its only rival in the European masterpiece canon is Beethoven’s 9th.  As we approach Good Friday – and the 297th anniversary of its premiere — we take a closer look at the epic sacred drama that inspired Felix Mendelssohn to spearhead a Bach revival over a century later.
