Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, RUBBERBANDance Group (RBDG) brings their latest creation, Gravity of Centre, to Toronto as part of DanceWorks’ NextStep Series. A fusion of hip-hop and contemporary dance, the work focuses on the interdependence and gravitational pull between beings and the struggles that can come out of this.
Choreographed by RBDG founder Victor Quijada, music for the work is provided by former RCM student DJ Lil’ Jaz who spins and scratches, creating an auditory plane that matches the movement on stage.
DanceWorks curator Mimi Beck spoke to Mike Duncan and Jean Stilwell about this unique production.
Gravity of Centre runs November 16th and 17th at the Fleck Dance Theatre. For tickets and more information visit danceworks.ca.
