Born in France on August 22, 1862, Claude Debussy was a Leo. For those who know Leos and know Debussy’s music, this may come as a shock. Leo is such a brazen sign, so showy, so over-the-top – hardly the image of the delicate and elusive sonic world of Debussy! Well, before you say “Bah! Astrology is humbug!” let me suggest that the key to his music lies not with his Leo sun, but with his sensitive Cancer moon. This symbol of his emotional drive sits at the cusp of the 12th house, the area of the chart that governs all which can be instinctively felt, but cannot be touched by consciousness. It is the realm of the infinite, intangible and unknowable, and was the source of Debussy’s inspiration. After all, this is the man who said, “Music is the silence between the notes.”
As for the Leo in Debussy, let’s just say that it was expressed less in his music than in his personal life: He was, by all reports, a massive egotist. (Sorry Leos, every sign has its negative side!)
