The 33rd Annual Dora Awards

Last night the 33rd Annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards were handed out at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts’ Bluma Appel theatre. The evening was hosted by Thom Allen, who can currently be seen in the Shaw Festival’s production of Ragtime.

Acting Up Stage Company and Theatre Passe Muraille dominated the evening, taking home five Dora Awards each. Theatre Passe Muraille’s Crash received four awards in the general theatre category while  Acting Up’s Caroline, or Change won four awards in musical theatre. The two companies shared an award for their co-production of Ride the Cyclone, which took home an award of Outstanding Touring Production.

Toronto Dance Theatre’s long-time Artistic Director, choreographer Christopher house received The Silver Ticket Award. The silver ticket is given to an individual who has excelled at their career while also nurturing the development of Canadian theatre.
