Interview with Soprano Mireille Asselin

Sopranos Mireille Asselin and Ambur Braid share the role of the ‘saucy’ Adele in the Canadian Opera Company’s latest production of Die Fledermaus. Finding inspiration in film noir, this production of Die Fledermaus is a twist on the traditionally “bubbly” opera.

Richard Ouzounian of The Toronto Star has called this production “… rich, racy, randy and irreverent that it’s bound to draw the ire of opera purists and bluenoses, but anyone who’s looking for a scintillating way to look at Strauss anew should hurry on down to the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts.”

Ms. Asselin spoke to Jean Stilwell and Mike Duncan recently about her role in the production directed by Christian Alden.

Die Fledermaus is on stage now until November 4th. Visit coc.ca for more information and to purchase tickets.
