Independence & Ingenuity: Freelance Porcelain Decorators in 18th Century Europe
This spring, Toronto’s Gardiner Museum will showcase some rare works from its permanent collection in its new exhibition INDEPENDENCE & INGENUITY: FREELANCE PORCELAIN DECORATORS IN 18th CENTURY EUROPE, running from March 14 until August 17. Independence & Ingenuity will highlight the flourishing ceramic culture of 18th century Europe and the historical and cultural significance of the freelance porcelain decorators, revealing a critical but often overlooked force that helped shape the production of porcelain.
