Noisy Rejects

Earl's
1199 Government Street
Victoria, BC

"Absolutely love the food and service. Absolutely hate the noise. (yes, we get it - Earl's wants to appear to be the best place to be through booming noise, and diners shouting at each other as though it's all so much fun. But perhaps Earl's could consider dividing up their huge restaurant into two areas in which to dine - one with classical music. [no extra cost](something similar to their 'party room', but available and set up for couples, as well as groups. Hey, Earl's, watch and learn, and see how many of us go often, as we pass the word around.)"

Lynden Park Mall
84 Lynden Road
Brantford, ON

The Lynden Park Mall Food Court is one of the worst. In the entire mall our ears and souls are assaulted, each store has a different loud sound (certainly not mucic) and Northern Reflections and Sears are the worse. It is so pervasive in Brantford that one is loath to go shopping or dine out.

Crabby Joe's
440 Hespeler Road
Cambridge, ON

Some years ago, we were in a Crabby Joe's restaurant on Hespeler Road in Cambridge, ON with friends for lunch. We were the only people in the restaurant and I can understand why. The music (obviously selected by a 15-year-old) was so loud we could hardly talk, so I asked the waitress if she would please turn it down. Her response: Sorry, we have no control over station or volume. What???? Even when we said we wouldn't be back, nothing.Applebee's in Cambridge, same thing. I'm going to start keeping track of restaurants that are too loud and keep you informed. Thank you for this Moses.

We had family visiting from Toronto and they had a live jazz playing at lunch - it was so loud we couldn't converse or order with the server - a horrible experience

"The shop can be full of noisy patrons and still the ""musac"" blares"
- Marlene Ronson

Casa Mendoza
2161 Lakeshore Blvd W
Etobicoke, ON

Valentine's dinner out at our all-time favourite restaurant for over 20 years was ruined Monday by noisy music. We moved to a table farther from the speaker, but still had to shout to each other to be heard. Disappointing!

Crème de la Crème
2991 Bloor Street West
Etobicoke, ON

Noisy! All hard surfaces! Almost intolerable depending upon hunger level and desire for delicious all-day breakfasts. Wait staff should get hazardous duty pay.
- Theodore Scott

Red Lobster
1750 The Queensway
Etobicoke, ON

When I go out to dine, I like to be able to have a conversation with my company.  what with noisy customers, noisy staff (noisy babies), kids running around.  Will not be my choice again, although I love the menu.

Kelsey's
45 Chisholm Drive
Milton, ON

The first sign of trouble was the music that blared from the front entrance outside to the parking lot.  Inside, the music volume was unbelievable.  Making the situation even worse, the high volume made it necessary for everyone to talk that much louder.  It was mayhem; I was so happy to leave!

Mississauga, ON

We had to yell out our order.  The waitress could not hear our requests, while eating we had to talk to the waitress no way we could do that, my little boy was having a headache with that noise.  You do not even get to appreciate your food, having to deal with the noise, and at the end we still have to pay the bills LOL.  Isn'n that frustrating when some kind of heavy noise which they call music is imposed on your brain.  enough of this! I rarely go out for a meal, it puts me off!

Burrito Boyz
9 Stavebank Road
Mississauga, ON

Burrito Boyz, Port Credit. Upon entering it's almost like an assault and you can't even hear yourself think. It is difficult to concentrate and actually place your order. If the food weren't so good, I wouldn't go back due to it. Thanks for your time
- Marc Fitkin

Earl's
100 City Centre Drive
Mississauga, ON

"Nice restaurant, menu, staff, except you can't have a conversation because of the loud music,(acoustics are terrible too) even at lunch when I feel there's no need for music to please the ""younger"" crowd. It would be nice to have one restaurant in Square One you can meet a friend for lunch......even Moxie's which is also quite nice, good food, is the same, loud music and poor acoustics.  Thank you for doing this....it's an annoyance among many people both young and old. The Pickel Barrel in Sherway is very pleasant to meet for lunch, I just met my daughter there last Thursday for lunch and some shopping!! "

Red Lobster
6220 Lundys Lane
Niagara Falls, ON

Red Lobster, Niagara Falls. Awful experience to start. Before our food arrived I asked the waitress if she could turn the music down a bit. She said she would be so happy to do that, and she did. It made for a much improved experience. While I'm on the noise thing...last year I took a cruise with Carnival. The only place on the ship where there was no music was our cabin. Even outside was bombarded. Terrible.

Beccofino
263 Lakeshore Road East
Oakville, ON

High ceilings and no acoustical treatment.  Tables are close together and it is impossible to enjoy any conversation eating out in these places.  We try to find places that one can enjoy eating out and having some conversation.  When money is put into the decor, why is there no attempt to consider the noise factor?  Anyone wearing a hearing aid (my 86 year old mother) is really out of luck.  All they hear are scraping floors and dishes clattering. If you can, arrange to sit at the back of Beccofino.  It really is a lovely restaurant if you go when it is not so busy and you are at the back.

Colossus Greek Taverna
221 Lakeshore Road East
Oakville, ON

Taking friends we have infrequent opportunity to enjoy out to dine at the above became a shouting match to make ourselves heard over the raucous noise emanating from the speaker system. Despite sitting about as close as one can, leaning on elbows over the table centre, we failed to be heard. A request to lower the volume failed. The atmosphere of not only 'music' noise but constant interruptions by the servers left us hyped up, adrenaline exhausted, and vowing never to eat out again.

Sunset Grill
361 Cornwall Road
Oakville, ON

Dear 96.3 The Sunset Grill is a clean, well run family restaurant. It offers great food at very reasonable prices. It is a jeans and t-shirt place where each time you eat there you notice how peaceful it is. I've never seen any signs that tell people to turn off cell phones or be respectful to others, it just seems to happen that way. I've been out with my wife at other times and those around us don't seem to clue in on the idea that not everyone wants to hear about what they are up to. I believe that no matter where you choose to dine or how much you'll be paying for it, it all boils down to respect for others. Park Place or Park Bench, good manners seem to have gone the way of common sense.

Metal chairs scraping on a hard floor, I made a vow to not go back.

The Compass Lakeside Grill and Lounge
2340 Ontario Street
Oakville, ON

WOW... what a terrible experience to arrive at a nice restaurant in Oakville for a Sunday lunch/brunch with friends and find out that their live music is sooo loud that we could barely hear our server let alone our friends.... Not  a place to go for conversation.... what a disappointment....such a nice location but clearly now they only want the under 30 crowd....
